Dan Kinzelman Resist/Evolve
Performance/installation
Resist/Evolve examines the limits of our bodies and minds, through our uncompromising urge to survive, persist and create in conditions of adversity. Using special breathing techniques, Dan Kinzelman creates uninterrupted improvised soundscapes based on frequencies contained within a single saxophone note. During the first ten minutes of the performance the artist approaches his own physical limit, which he subsequently endeavours to maintain, pushing the edge of both physical and mental endurance and seeking an equilibrium between the rules he has prepared, his capacity for concentration, and the physical capabilities of his body as it interacts with the instrument. The sound is interrupted only when this balance can no longer be sustained.
